How Many New Businesses Register in Florida Each Month?
Florida registers a new business almost every minute. In a typical month, the Division of Corporations records on the order of 56,564 new business registrations, and across all of 2025 it logged 804,256, up from 618,627 the year before. The monthly rhythm isn't flat, though. It swings hard with the calendar, and that pattern tells you something real about how Floridians actually start companies.
Florida averages about 56,564 new business registrations per month. The count peaks in January and bottoms out in December.
New Florida business registrations, month by month
Two months in spring 2025 sit far above the rest. Those reflect a processing batch in the state's records rather than a genuine doubling of new companies, so read them as a recording artifact, not a boom. Strip them out and the underlying line is remarkably steady: a band roughly between 40,000 and 75,000 registrations a month.

Why January is always the busiest month
Look at the two Januaries in the data: 74,331 registrations in January 2025 and 75,462 in January 2026, each the high-water mark of its year. December is the opposite. The 34,029 registrations in December 2024 made it the lowest month in the whole window. The reason is mundane and very human: people wait for a clean January 1 start date for a new company, both for bookkeeping simplicity and the psychological fresh start of a new tax year. The same instinct that fills gyms in January fills the business registry.
| Period | New registrations | Avg per month |
|---|---|---|
| 2024 (full year) | 618,627 | 51,552 |
| 2025 (full year) | 804,256 | 67,021 |
| Typical month (2024–2026) | n/a | 56,564 |

What the pace says about Florida
A run rate north of half a million new registrations a year is a lot of company for a single state. Most of these are LLCs, Florida's default structure, and a meaningful share are single-purpose entities formed to hold one property or one project. That's covered in why Florida picks the LLC and in the statewide totals. Where those new companies land is its own story: a heavy majority cluster in Miami-Dade, Broward, and the other top counties for business.
